Different From Others

 My name

My name is Yhonny Feng Cen(冯 岑). Many of my friends think that it is not my real name because it does not sound like a Chinese name. It is actually mixed by two last names. I was born in Venezuela. For this reason, I have a Spanish name. The curious thing is that my first name is in Spanish, but my last names are in Chinese because my parents were born in Chinese. Even though my parents are from Guangdong China, they decided not to give me a Chinese name because it is hard to pronounce. However, since most of my friends in the U.S are Chinese, they start calling me Rouni (肉泥 ) which means meat paste. I do not like it at all, but it is better than calling me other names. At the beginning, when I mention my name to my friends, they always think that it starts with aJ,” but it does not. I have never asked my parents what my name means because nobody asks me that kind of question and when people ask, I just say “I do not know.” Many people ask me why I have two last names, and I always answer differently. Having two last name is normal in the Hispanic culture because they use both the father's and mother's last names together. However, I still like my name because it is unique, and I did not inherit it from someone in my family or a generation before.

  3. That what I though tho when you said your name is Yhonny, it is because I have a lot friends in Indonesia when I was in school. I went to Catholic school whiches mostly chinese descendants, and they are all using Indonsian names rathen than their original names. The reason was the same as yours, it is hard to pronounce! Lol. Your name is awesome and meaningful.

  4. Yhonny it's a cool name, and mix perfectly with your personality haha. It's curious how your parents mixed both cultures in different ways. Did you ask your parents why they chose Yhonny?

  5. Hi, Yhonny. When I first time heard this name, I thought it was unique. Although you didn't ask your parents about the meaning of the name, I think it contained the love and blessing of your parents.

  6. Hi Yhonny, at the beginning I thought that you were born in the U.S., so you have a different name from others. After you told me that you were born in Venezuela, everything makes sense. I also heard that a lot of people like to call you Johnny, have you noticed that?
